You're just not playing the right games! j/k
I think what initially drew me to it was the humorous aspect. I saw a trailer once (I think it was from a Tapjoy ad for another game) and the heroes' names and how they were drawn just made me giggle all around. The names and pictures of the gear too, it's hilarious. The grinding is not as hilarious but ah well.
I started on a few different servers so I got to see a variety of guilds; in my travels I've never experienced any harassment on this game, as opposed to some other games I've played. That shit right there can chase away female players like nobody's business. But on DS it's always been a friendly welcoming environment. So kudos to everyone for being cool people. That helped a lot.
And then... there were runes. I've always been the min/max type of gamer who puts together walkthroughs and spreadsheets for games that I love. As I've gotten older, became a mom etc, I've had to let go a lot of that tendency because I've got rl shit to do! But runes tapped into that "I wanna be the very best" vibe. Playing the rune lottery keeps me interested even now.
So, I'm a woman, and that's why I play.
