Keeping the top war guild at the top does zero help for the game as a whole.
It simply keeps them stronger. They don't need a permanent position. It keeps them full at 50 players for no reason while the game is dieing because other guilds are atrophying and reducing player population and causing Gree to lose money
I have no issue with strong guilds. But many games die because a server ends up with 2 or 3 strong guilds who dominate a server and simply get stronger and stronger.
I would expect if one were in a top guild, one would want an actual challenge and not have everything handed to oneself
I agree that the random nature of matchups and scoring is not fair. However having to actually fight for that spot in a meaningful way is preferable to bring handed a never-lose situation.
There are many ways to do that. Cut the stats on the top guilds in diminishing severity. Reduce the points awarded for last week's winners.
Everyone can see 2 or 3 guilds with 50 players and the remainder of the server at 25 to 35. I see this across all servers 1-8. Not healthy for the long term survival of the game. Maybe it's different 9-11. But they will get there, too.
PerBlue had an interest in making guild war a vibrant and dynamic part of the game. They knew that 50 to 150 people on a server winning week after week after week was a recipe for death. They lost control of the game before they had a chance to correct things and now we're stuck with junk.
If a top guild is so wonderful, they might weather a handicap and REALLY show their dominance. In the meantime, others might be encouraged to actually try rather than restoring to putting out crap defence and losing battles 10, 11, and 12 simply not to get in range of the perma-50's.
Think big picture and not I, Me, Mine.
The game has shrunk so badly that It's probably too late at this point other than reducing Max guild size to 30. Maybe doing that and adding in some penalty for repeated top 10 finishes would restore vibrancy to this aspect of the game and improve the overall longevity of Dragonsoul as a whole.
