You're talking about leadership as an abstract. We (and the bulk of this thread) talking about Guild Leaders which is pretty well defined in DS.It's the person who starts a guild. Period.
A champ or an officer is a person who that person gave a rank to whether it's because they do a good job, they tell good jokes, they showed up at the right moment, or they just stayed long enough.
Each guild defines these things for themselves. There is no "legitimate" except as defined by the guild you're in.
That's why it's so important to find the Right guild for the experience you're looking for.
Which it sounds like you have, but don't paint all guilds with your brush.
What gets you promoted in one guild gets you kicked in another.
My preference is for the guild to actually do things together rather than being led by the nose to each activity by the leadership. It seems that's Kobreti's as well. Being a member doesn't mean you don't help people out with lineups or direct traffic in battles just because you're not in leadership. But Many guilds play that way.
