My position on this echoes that of Ziggy—theoretically, I’m pro-merge as I do think there is a raft of dying servers, dead guilds and inactive accounts (to say nothing of players playing 5 or more accounts; there’s one player who’s name I won’t mention who actually dispenses w/any pretense and simply names them ‘(name) 1, (name) 5’ etc.). But before I can in good conscious push for that as a solution, we need to see some consistent code fixes, new rollouts without major flaws & gain confidence this would be executed correctly.
The GS team has been told there’s a huge technical limitation right now in that the game is hard coded to a far greater extent than best practices would call for—this makes for slow going of improving these errors since the unintended consequences of fixing any one bug can show up almost anywhere else. But the few long term hints the GS team has received regarding the future of the game most definitely suggest that the Japanese office has no intention of sunsetting this game & that the necessary effort to grow it again will be put into it...that includes some tedious fixes.
Long story short: merge right now? No and that’s probably a good thing. Merges down the road? If we get to the point where that’s on the table that’s a great sign for the future of the game.
